Noise Levels in the Library
The Daniel M. Soref Learning Commons (first floor of the library) is a collaborative research and study environment, and users can expect varied noise levels throughout the day. Although there are no designated quiet study areas in the Golda Meir Library building, sound levels may be lower on upper and lower floors.
Earplugs are available for free at the Research Help Desk in the Daniel M. Soref Learning commons and headphones are available for check-out at the Equipment and Reserve Services desk.
Please be respectful of others and choose your study spot thoughtfully. Review the Library User Rights and Responsibilities for more information on UWM Libraries' behavioral policies. There are additional spaces in the library that are available to students, staff, and faculty including:
Group Study Rooms
Group Study Rooms are available for 2 or more students and can be reserved online. Open the "Forms and Services" drop-down menu on the library homepage and select the first options, "Room Reservations"
Specialized Library Spaces
There are several specialized spaces that can be reserved in the library including:
- The Distraction Free Room (WB48)- available for students with accessibility needs. The Distraction Free Room and the Equipment and Reserve Service desk close 15 minutes before the regular building hours.
- The Recording Booth- a small room is intended for use by members of the UWM community who need to rehearse speeches, conduct online or phone interviews, record audiovisual presentations or other similar projects. Recording equipment can be checked out from the Equipment and Reserve desk.
- The Media Viewing Room (WB12)- intended for use by groups who need to use the media equipment in the room.
Study Carrels
There are a limited number of study carrels that can be reserved by faculty, staff or graduate students engaged in research and writing that requires extended use of library resources. Carrel assignments are for the duration of one academic year (September 1 to August 31) and may be renewed annually. Fill out the Carrel Request Form to reserve a space.
